Dhokar Dalna Recipe
Introduction of the recipe
Dhokar dalna is a authentic delicious bengali recipe. It's a veg recipe, you can serve it from puja bari to biya bari everywhere
Ingredients
- 1cup chana dal
- bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 tsp ginger powder
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 3 pinch of salt
- ghee
- 1 large potato(chopped into cubes)
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 5tsp mustard oil
Method
- Soak the dal over night or if you are in hurry soak it in lukewarm water at least for 3 to 4 hours.
- Then take a blender and make a smooth paste of dal.
- Now on the oven & take a pan & heat mustard oil, now put the paste to the pan and fry in oil at low flame for few minutes.
- While frying the dal paste add ginger, red chilli, cumin powder or paste. Then add some sugar & salt as per your taste.
- Now take a plain big plate and brush a little oil all over the plate.
- Take the paste & pour it on the plate.
- While it is warm pat lightly with your hands or with a spatula level the paste.
- Now cut the paste in diamond shapes & leave it for few minutes to get cool & hard. When it is done take the pieces out slowly.
- Now marinate cube sized potato with turmeric & salt then fry them well until it get golden brown, after that fry those cube dal cakes in oil till they get golden brown on both side.
- Now take a pan heat some fresh oil add a pinch of cumin seeds and bay leaves then saute for a minute.
- Now add all the paste(cumin ,ginger, red chilli),salt &add half cup of water. Saute till the spices start leaving water.
- Now add fried potatos & stir them well.
- After that add 2cup of water and cover the pan with lid .
- When the potatos are boiled add dal cakes & cook it for 5 to 10 minutes in medium flame.
- Now add a little bit of garam masala powder & ghee(ofcourse these two are not mandatory if you want you can skip it too)
- Now switch off the oven.
How to serve
Dhoka is ready to serve. You can serve it with steamed rice or roti or paratha whatever you prefer the most.
Conclusion
Though it is little spicy but its made by chana dal which is quite healthy too, so without any second thought try it at least once the way I instructed above in method.
